Recognizing the need for an upscale publication that celebrates the art of fine living and showcases the latest trends in architecture, interior design, and landscaping, Bob Slattery founded Housetrends magazine in 2000.
From its inaugural issue, Housetrends resonated with homeowners, offering a welcome blend of captivating photography, insightful articles, and innovative design concepts–plus a connection to the talented professionals behind these featured projects.
Slattery’s entrepreneurial success story began in 1978, when he and Robert Wolfe—his college roommate—bought the Cincinnati Valpak® franchise. Their territory quickly expanded to major markets in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, and Pennsylvania, forming the largest independent Valpak franchise operation in the country. The duo later founded franchisor Reach® magazine in 1983.
Following their 2022 acquisition of the Clipper Magazine Network in 2022, AmatoMartin, a privately held investment firm, acquired Valpak from Platinum Equity late last year. The integration of Valpak with the combined Reach & Clipper Magazine network broadens the direct marketing powerhouses reach with a market-leading 60 million unique US households through publications and shared mail, with hyper-targeting capabilities spanning the US offline and online through their leading digital and e-commerce platforms, that serve over 50,000 business customers. Valpak and Reach/Clipper’s combined strength forges a dynamic and comprehensive solution catering to businesses and consumers alike.
Slattery owns and operates a diverse group of companies, many in the advertising and media fields. His Slatts Group entity is an innovative, data-driven, omni-channel marketer for local, regional, and national advertisers.
Building on the success of Housetrends and the talented team behind that publication, he introduced Home & Leisure magazine in 2023. With consumer spending on the rise, supply chain easing, a strong labor market, and affluent consumers seeking inspiration, the timing was ideal for launching a publication offering valuable opportunities across a hyper-targeted, high-value cross section of homes throughout Greater Cincinnati.
